Our Philosophy

Chilldren

As Cusco Trekking Experts, our philosophy is different. Every company has a reason for existing. Saqra´s Trek has never been about becoming the biggest Peruvian trekking company in Cusco or operating the highest number of departures each season. Instead, we wanted to build something we could be proud of, a company that treated people fairly, respected the mountains we work in, and showed visitors a more authentic side of Peru.

This idea is summed up in four simple words. “Help us to help.” It has been our motto from the very beginning.

Five per cent of every tour we operate is invested in social projects that support the Andean communities where we work. These are the same communities that welcome our travellers, maintain ancient traditions and have called these mountains home for generations. As a local trekking company based in Cusco Peru, we believe tourism should never be one-sided. After all, if a certain place gives us so much, it should also receive something in return.

Cusco Trekking Experts – Doing Things Differently

As Cusco trekking experts at Saqra’s Trek, we have never believed that Peru begins and ends with the Classic Inca Trail. It is an extraordinary trek, without question! However,  it is only one small part of a mountain range filled with remarkable places. Routes such as Choquequirao, Lares, Vilcabamba, Huchuy Qosqo and Salkantay each tell a different story. Some treks pass through remote villages, others follow forgotten Inca roads. Others lead to archaeological sites that receive only a fraction of the visitors arriving at Machu Picchu each day. That is why part of our philosophy is encouraging travellers to look beyond the obvious.

That’s not because we don’t visit Peru’s famous places; we do!  However, Peru has far more to offer than many people often realize.

Our Core Philosophy at Saqra’s Trek

We also believe that great trekking experiences begin with the people behind them. For that reason, we are not interested in competing by offering the lowest prices. Fair wages, ongoing training and safe working conditions matter to us. If it wasn’t for our guides, cooks, horsemen and support staff, none of our journeys would be possible. Looking after our team allows us to offer a better experience for every traveller who chooses to explore Peru with us.

At Saqra’s Trek, success is measured differently. When our travellers return home with a better understanding of the Andes. Also, if local communities benefit from responsible tourism. If our team feels proud of the work they do. Then we have achieved exactly what we set out to do. This is the core philosophy at Saqra’s Trek.
