Vicus Vilcabamba

Vilcabamba, is the last Inca city where the conquistadors entered in the year 1572 to capture the last Inca and so dominate the empire completely. It is very important for tourists to know that the city is composed of various archaeological constructions in the area of Rosaspata, such as Vicos and Nustahispana. Via this route you can visit the last Inca city, the lost city of the Incas, Machu picchu.

DAY 1: CUSCO – HUANCACALLE.

On this first day, we leave the city of Cusco very early in private transport, travelling for 6 hours, for the sacred Valley, to the highest point of the route the pass malaga 4300 meters, then descend until the deviation of the route to Vilcabamba. where we begin to ascend until we reach the city of Huancacalle (2850msnm). Here we will have the opportunity to visit the archaeological sites of Vicos and Huanca Calle, in the Rosaspata zone, and where we will make our campsite.

DAY 2: HUANCACALLE – RAQACHACA – HATUN PAMPA.

This day is very interesting, as on this route we will encounter a true Inca Trail in its original state until we climb to the pass of Pillaupata, which we find over 4000msnm and where we will begin to descend into the beautiful valley of Incawasi, until we arrive at the part below Racachaca From here we climb to the high part to make our camp hatun pampa.
6 to 7 Hours of trekking

DAY 3: RAQACHACA – MUTUYPATA.

After our breakfast, we continue our ascent, passing through an area very beautiful and very level. We continue climbing to the pass of Yanakasa 4200(msnm) from where we can observe Lake Yanacocha that for the villagers is a very dangerous place, because it pulls people into its depths (an Andean belief). We continue on our journey until the second pass, Tullutacaca, that is approximately the same altitude. From here, we descend to another beautiful lake that we find at the foot of a glacier. We continue climbing to the last pass, Asutina. From here, we descent through a valley, entering into the cloud forests of this zone. We make our camp at Mutuypapa (2950msnm)
7 to 8 Hours of trekking

DAY 4: MUTUYPATA – YANATILE – HIDROLECTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES.

We continue our descent through a beautiful canyon following the left bank of the river Yanatile for a little more than 7 kilometers or around 3 hours, until the village of Yanatile. On this walk, we can find different fruit tres such as bananas and grenadines (granadillas), as well as coffee plantations. Later, we will take a transport to the village of Santa Teresa and later to the hydroelectric plant where we will take an afternoon train to the town of Aguas Calientes. Here we will overnight in a comfortable hostal and have our last farewell dinner in a restaurant and organize our last day.
3 Hours of walking, the rest in car and train.

DAY 5: MACHUPICHU CUSCO.

On this day, we will leave very early to take the first bus to Machu Picchu which leaves at 5:30 so that we can be at the citadel early to see the sun rise. In this place, we will have a thorough explanation of the Inca construction, at a time where there will be the least number of people. Later, many more people from the city of Cusco will arrive. We can also secure our entry to the mountain of Waynapichu from where we can appreciate Machu Picchu from a different vantage point. Later, we will again descend to the pueblo of Aguas Calientes to take our return train to Cusco, and then return you to your hotel. End of our services.

IMPORTANT NOTES

The briefing will be 2 days before the group departs, where you will first meet with your guide, and have an explanation about the tour.
The time of hiking will depend on the group. The guide can change the places for having lunch and camping according to the physical condition of the group.
Each guide has his own way of leading his groups but always his decisions will be for the benefit of the tourists.

VILCA BAMBA. This is an adventure tour that we must enjoy, to the maximum with good weather or, if not, always we must have an open mind, a positive attitude and a good sense of humor.
On the fourth day, we can vist the thermal baths of Colcamayu since we will have sufficient time in Santa Teresa where we must buy the train tickets

WHAT TO BRING ON THE TREK

  • 1 small nylon reinforced backpack to carry the things you need for the trek (camera, drinks, etc.)
  • 1 large backpack or suitcase to keep the things you don‘t need in your hotel in Cusco until you return from your trek
  • Sleeping bag good for -5°C (which can be rented in Cusco)
  • Small flashlight and extra batteries
  • 1 water bottle (1 liter) or a small plastic throw away bottle
  • Hiking boots
  • Tennis shoes
  • 1 jacket (of nylon with hood and water and wind resistant)
  • 1 Fleece Jacket
  • 1 pair of gloves and hat of wool (they can be bought during your trip)
  • 3 or 4 short sleeved shirts (preferably “dryfit” that don’t retain water)
  • 2 pairs of shorts such as bermudas.
  • Socks: 4 pairs of wool and 4 of fiber (coolmax) for the trek (avoid cotton as these can retain water)
  • 1 sun hat and sunglasses
  • Personal medications and toiletries in small containers
  • Sunscreen for your skin and lips
  • Insect repellent
  • Moisturizer lotion to avoid the drying out of the skin
  • Bathing suit for the thermal baths in Aguas Calientes

  • Sleeping bags which can be rented in the office for $5 per day and good for – 10°C.
  • Professional walking sticks can be rented in the office for $2 per day
